Removable Denture Post Op

Post-Operative Instructions for Partial or Complete Dentures:
  • WEARING SCHEDULE: Begin wearing your dentures immediately after the procedure. Initially, wear them for most of the day, gradually increasing the duration as you become more accustomed to them. Remove them only for cleaning and at night while sleeping.
  • ORAL HYGIENE: Maintain good oral hygiene by brushing your gums, tongue, and the roof of your mouth with a soft-bristled toothbrush or gauze. Clean your dentures thoroughly with a denture brush and mild soap or denture cleaner after every meal and before bedtime.
  • HANDLING DENTURES: Handle your dentures with care to avoid damage. When removing them, hold them over a soft surface or a basin of water to prevent breakage if accidentally dropped.
  • EATING: Initially, stick to soft foods and gradually reintroduce harder foods as you become more comfortable with your dentures. Cut food into smaller pieces and chew slowly and evenly on both sides of your mouth to prevent dislodging the dentures.
  • SPEECH: Practice speaking aloud to adjust to speaking with dentures. Reading aloud or repeating difficult words can help improve speech clarity.
  • DISCOMFORT: Some discomfort, soreness, or irritation may occur initially as your mouth adjusts to the dentures. Over-the-counter pain relievers can help alleviate any discomfort. If sore spots develop, contact our office for adjustments.
  • FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENTS: Attend all scheduled follow-up appointments with your dentist. These appointments are crucial for adjustments to ensure proper fit and comfort.
  • DENTURE CARE: Store your dentures in water or a denture soaking solution when not in use to prevent them from drying out or warping. Avoid using hot water, as it can distort the shape of the dentures.
  • AVOIDING DAMAGE: Refrain from biting or chewing hard objects, such as ice or hard candy, as it can damage your dentures. Additionally, avoid using toothpicks or sharp objects near your dentures to prevent scratches.
  • EMERGENCY CARE: In the event of a denture breakage or any other emergency, contact our office immediately for assistance.
Following these post-operative instructions will help ensure a smooth recovery and optimal comfort with your new partial or complete dentures. If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to our dental office.
